Abstract

|
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) released new clinical practice guidelines for the management of atrial fibrillation the first guidelines to be prepared solely by the ESC in 2010. Key changes in the antiarrhythmic drug therapy include a more pragmatic approach to rate control and introduction of new arrhythmic drugs such as vernakalant and dronedarone for acute and long-term rhythm control. This review focuses on the new anti-arrhythmic drug therapy recommended by the new 2010 ESC guidelines to improve the management of atrial fibrillation.
